Russia is reportedly planning to deploy between 100,000 and 150,000 troops in Belarus this year, potentially positioning them for action against NATO nations, as highlighted by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during an address in Munich on Friday.
Zelenskyy stated, “In 2023, Russia intends to prepare 15 divisions with a focus on training and reinforcing its military presence in the Belarusian region.” He added that while he is uncertain whether this troop buildup would lead to an offensive against Ukraine specifically, he emphasized that an offensive is likely. “I want to clarify that I am not trying to instill fear. These forces may launch an incursion into Ukraine, similar to what occurred in 2022, or they could target Poland or the Baltic states,” he warned.
