The Kansas City Chiefs have set a timeline for their star tight end to share his plans for the future.

Travis Kelce has been evaluating his NFL career options ever since the Chiefs faced a heavy defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl held last weekend in New Orleans.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Chiefs are urging Kelce to communicate his decision by approximately March 14, which coincides with the start of the new league year and the opening of the free agency period.

Kelce is also set to receive a $12.5 million roster bonus on March 15, as stated by Over The Cap.

He has one remaining year on his contract with the Chiefs, the only team he has played for throughout his NFL career.

As of now, Kelce has yet to indicate whether he intends to continue playing.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes addressed the situation after the Super Bowl, emphasizing that Kelce deserves the necessary time to contemplate his future.

“He has contributed immensely to this team and the NFL overall, and it has been a pleasure working with him and watching him play,” Mahomes remarked. “He knows he has more football left in him. It’s just a matter of whether he wants to endure the grind of another season, including the challenges of playing 20 games and reaching the Super Bowl.

“He’s already etched his name in history as a standout and a potential first-ballot Hall of Famer, yet his passion for the game remains strong.”

NFL insider James Palmer reported that members within the Chiefs organization suspect that the recent season may have been Kelce’s last.

During a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast, Kelce mentioned that he was “just pushing everything down the road.”
