Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently expressed his uncertainty regarding a possible meeting in Saudi Arabia while attending the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, stating, “I heard someone mention a meeting in Saudi Arabia, but I’m not sure what it’s about.”

Regarding the idea of discussions occurring without Ukraine’s involvement, he remarked, “To me, that doesn’t seem like a serious dialogue.”

An irritated Ukrainian delegate at the conference voiced concerns over the reports, saying, “I have no idea where this information originated or what they believe will come of discussions that exclude us.”

Back in Kyiv, Mykhailo Podolyak, a key advisor to Zelenskyy, was even more direct. He commented, “There’s nothing substantial to negotiate. Russia is not prepared for talks.”

During an event at the POLITICO Pub at the conference, Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul surprised attendees by revealing that a meeting is scheduled for the coming days. He mentioned that it would include high-profile officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, national security adviser Mike Waltz, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.

Understanding Trump’s Role

This announcement—and the surrounding confusion—has heightened concerns in Europe that former President Donald Trump might seek to forge a peace agreement regarding Ukraine, potentially sidelining Kyiv and its Western allies.
