WASHINGTON (AP) — On Wednesday, President Donald Trump expressed his support for the idea of returning a portion of the savings generated by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to American taxpayers as a sort of dividend.

At an investment conference in Miami, he mentioned the administration’s consideration of a plan where 20% of the savings from DOGE’s cost-cutting initiatives would be allocated to American citizens, with another 20% aimed at reducing the national debt.

Trump indicated that the possibility of dividend payouts could encourage more citizens to report instances of wasteful government spending.

“They’ll take part in the process of saving us money,” Trump noted. “They’ll be reporting it themselves.”

As he returned to Washington on Air Force One, a reporter inquired about Musk’s proposal.

“I love it,” the Republican leader commented to the press aboard the plane.

The day prior, Musk had shared on his social media platform that he “will check with the President” regarding a suggestion that they jointly announce a “DOGE Dividend” to provide taxpayers with refunds drawn from the savings created by DOGE. This initiative has already resulted in the termination or layoff of thousands of federal employees.
