The Trump administration has suggested to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the United States could be granted a 50% stake in Ukraine’s rare earth minerals as compensation for its military assistance, according to a report from NBC News.
U.S. officials informed NBC News that this arrangement could serve as a means for Ukraine to offset the extensive military aid, amounting to billions of dollars, that the U.S. has supplied to Ukraine since the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Additionally, American officials expressed a willingness to send U.S. troops to Ukraine to secure these valuable mineral resources, contingent upon reaching a peace agreement with Russia to conclude the ongoing conflict.
