The General Services Administration (GSA), the federal agency responsible for managing government-owned properties, has announced plans to deactivate its entire network of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, as reported by The Verge.

Currently, the GSA oversees a vast network consisting of hundreds of EV charging stations that provide approximately 8,000 plugs for both government vehicles and those of federal employees. According to sources, guidance on the shutdown will be distributed to federal employees next week, with some regional offices already instructed to deactivate their charging stations.

In related news, Colorado Public Radio recently acquired an internal communication indicating that the EV charging stations at the Denver Federal Center will also be shut down as they do not hold “mission critical” status.

This decision aligns with a broader trend during the Trump administration, which has been systematically reducing the size of government agencies and scaling back federal assistance for renewable energy initiatives, including a previously funded EV charging infrastructure program that previously allocated millions of dollars to Tesla.

TechCrunch has reached out to the GSA for a response regarding these developments.
