A tragic incident occurred in Munich, Germany, where a 37-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter lost their lives due to injuries sustained in a car attack on Thursday. Authorities report that this shocking event also left at least 37 individuals injured when a vehicle drove into a crowd gathered for a trade union rally.

The driver, identified by local media as Farhad N, a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, was taken into custody at the scene. Prosecutors indicated that the suspect may have been driven by religious motivations.

Both the mother and her young daughter were among several victims transported to the hospital with serious injuries following the attack. Tragically, police spokesman Ludwig Waldinger confirmed the fatalities of the mother and child on Saturday.

This horrifying car ramming incident has reignited discussions on security concerns just a week before Germany’s federal elections. Over the years, a series of attacks carried out by immigrants in Munich has gained attention, notably involving two alleged attackers from Afghanistan.

Adding to the gravity of the situation, this attack coincided with the start of the Munich Security Conference on Friday. US Vice President JD Vance, upon his arrival in the city, expressed heartfelt condolences to the victims and the injured.

German officials revealed that the suspect had arrived in the country in 2016. Although his asylum request was denied, he was allowed to remain in Germany due to potential dangers he faced if deported back to Afghanistan. At the time of the incident, he held a valid residence and work permit.

Authorities confirmed that he had no prior criminal history and found no links to any jihadist organizations. Furthermore, police indicated that he acted independently. During his detention, Munich public prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann shared that the suspect proclaimed “Allahu Akbar,” which translates to “God is greatest” in Arabic, suggesting he might have had Islamist motivations.
