According to Al Arabiya, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s trip to Washington has been postponed indefinitely. The visit, initially scheduled for February 18, has been delayed due to Cairo’s objection to US President Donald Trump‘s controversial plan to transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan, as reported by Al Arabiya.

Senior officials in Egypt conveyed to Al Arabiya that relations with Washington are currently at their lowest in three decades. In a statement on January 29, Sisi emphasized that Egypt “cannot take part in the injustice of displacing the Palestinian people,” as highlighted by the local news outlet Ahram Online.

Additionally, Egyptian authorities have expressed dissatisfaction over Trump’s reference to Sisi as “the general,” perceiving it as condescending, according to the officials.

The anticipated summit involving Trump, Sisi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS), and Jordanian King Abdullah II may also face delays due to these tensions.

In a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), Sisi called for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip while ensuring that Palestinians are not displaced in the process.

Establishing a Palestinian State

According to Sisi, creating a Palestinian state is the “only guarantee for achieving lasting peace,” as stated by AFP.

Meanwhile, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty is currently in Washington meeting with high-ranking US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday and Senator Lindsey Graham on Tuesday.
