Several educational institutions in East Tennessee and Kentucky announced they will remain closed on Thursday and Friday due to an increase in illnesses and potential flooding concerns.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A number of schools throughout East Tennessee and Kentucky are set to close on Thursday and Friday, as reported cases of illness continue to rise and flooding is occurring in certain areas of the region.

The Tennessee Department of Health has indicated that the state is currently experiencing its peak flu season, resulting in elevated levels of influenza activity statewide. Concurrently, severe storms have swept through East Tennessee, depositing heavy rainfall and causing flooding in some locations.

  • Cocke County Schools: Opening two hours late on February 13
  • Grainger County Schools: Virtual learning to be held on February 13 and 14
  • Greene County Schools: Closed on February 13
  • Hancock County Schools: Closed on February 13
  • Hawkins County Schools: Closed on February 13
  • McCreary County, KY: Closed on February 13 and 14 due to illness
  • McMinn County Schools: Closed on February 13
  • Monroe County Schools: Closed on February 13 because of illness; staff development day on February 14 with no school
  • Montessori Internationale School: Closed on February 13
  • Rogersville City Schools: Closed on February 13
  • Sweetwater City Schools: Closed through February 13
  • Union County Schools: Closed through February 13
