Each year, on the third Monday of February, many Americans take the opportunity to enjoy a holiday. This day is known as Presidents’ Day, officially recognized as Washington’s Birthday in honor of George Washington, the first president of the United States (his birth date is February 22).

This federal holiday has also evolved to celebrate President Abraham Lincoln, whose birthday falls on February 12.

Presidents’ Day is well-known for the wide range of discounts offered at numerous retailers.

This year, Presidents’ Day will be observed on Monday, February 17. Here’s an overview of what services will be available on the holiday in 2025.

Both Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange will not conduct trading on this day.

As it is a federal holiday for banking, most traditional bank branches will be closed, though TD Bank will remain open on Monday.

Customers can still access online banking and ATM services during this time.

Most major retailers and grocery stores, including Walmart, Target, Kroger, and Costco, will remain open. It’s advisable to check with local shops and eateries for their specific hours of operation.

Due to the holiday status, most nonessential government offices, including DMVs, city halls, courthouses, and many libraries, will be closed.

The USPS will not provide mail service on Presidents’ Day.

Conversely, UPS will run its operations as usual, while FedEx will offer limited services.
