The Holy See Press Office provided an update to journalists on Wednesday morning, reporting that Pope Francis had another restful night at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. His condition remains critical but stable as he receives treatment for bilateral pneumonia.

In their statement, the Holy See Press Office noted, “The Pope had a peaceful night and is currently resting.” Upon waking, Pope Francis was able to sit in his armchair and carry on with his ongoing therapy, which includes the same oxygen treatment administered over the past few days. This evening, an additional medical update is expected, which may reveal the results from the pulmonary CT scan conducted on Tuesday.
The health update released on Tuesday evening emphasized that the Pope’s “clinical condition remains critical yet stable,” with no acute respiratory incidents reported and stable hemodynamic parameters.
During the update, it was stated, “In the evening, he underwent a scheduled CT scan to assess the status of the bilateral pneumonia. The prognosis continues to be cautious.” The statement added that after receiving the Eucharist in the morning, the Pope resumed his work activities.
Since Pope Francis was admitted to Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome on February 14th due to bronchitis, there have been twice-daily updates to keep the faithful informed about his health condition.
Currently, he is being treated for double pneumonia, and a health update from the previous week indicated that he is displaying mild renal insufficiency, which appears to be well-managed.
