Samsung is set to reveal the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold7 around July, and new leaked renders have emerged, providing a first look at this upcoming foldable smartphone. These images are based on CAD designs, meaning there could be slight changes before the final release, but they offer a solid preview of Samsung’s latest innovation.
The South Korean tech giant appears to be responding to a growing trend of slimmer foldable devices, initially popularized by its Chinese rivals. Notably, the Oppo Find N5, recently revealed, currently holds the title for the world’s thinnest book-style foldable.
While the Fold7 may not surpass Oppo’s offering in terms of thinness, it will come impressively close. Reports suggest that when unfolded, the device measures approximately 4.5mm in thickness and around 9.5mm when folded, a measurement that includes the camera bump. Without the bump, the thickness is said to be nearer to 9mm, though exact figures remain unclear.
For context, the Oppo Find N5 measures 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded. Such minor differences in millimeters are often imperceptible, suggesting that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will feel almost identical to the Find N5 in terms of thickness. However, the aspect ratio plays a role as well, though specifics are not yet available.
When unfolded, the Fold7 is rumored to measure 158.4 x 143.1 mm, making it slightly taller and over 1 cm wider than its predecessor. This may indicate a wider aspect ratio for the cover screen, which is an exciting prospect for users.
On a less favorable note, the battery capacity is expected to remain at 4,400 mAh, which could be seen as a drawback in comparison to competitors that are integrating 5,600 mAh batteries into similar-sized devices. The Fold7 is anticipated to feature an 8.2-inch inner display along with a 6.5-inch cover screen, all powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
In terms of camera capabilities, the main sensor will receive an upgrade to a 200 MP lens sourced from the Galaxy Z Fold SE. This will be accompanied by a 12 MP ultra-wide camera and a 10 MP telephoto lens. The selfie options will reportedly remain the same as in the Fold6, featuring a 4 MP under-display camera in the main screen and a 10 MP camera on the cover display.
