For several weeks, speculation surrounded Kellen Moore’s transition from the Eagles’ offensive coordinator to the head coach of the Saints, anticipated to occur as soon as the Eagles concluded their season. However, this announcement could only be finalized once the Eagles completed their season—which they did triumphantly by winning Super Bowl LIX.

Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis expressed that while it’s gratifying to witness your future head coach achieve top-level success, it also presents the challenge of having to wait for an official hiring due to his Super Bowl commitments.

“This was an extensive process,” Loomis remarked. “It took longer than we expected, primarily because the Eagles continued their winning streak, which postponed our chance to make a well-informed decision. We are thankful for their understanding and collaboration during this time, and we extend our congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles and Kellen for securing the Super Bowl title right here in New Orleans.”

Loomis noted that the Eagles conducted a comprehensive evaluation of numerous coaching candidates before choosing Moore.

“We had several outstanding contenders for the position, and I truly believe that each of the finalists was capable and will likely become head coaches in the future. I want to express my gratitude for their interest, hard work, and patience throughout this journey,” Loomis stated. “In the end, we concluded that Kellen is the perfect match for our team. His rich background as a player, position coach, and offensive coordinator has equipped him exceptionally well for this role, which was clearly evident during our interviews and discussions.”

Amid ongoing concerns about the Saints’ salary cap situation, which some believe could hinder the team’s progress for years, Loomis remains optimistic about the future in New Orleans.

“It’s incredibly encouraging to envision the direction that Kellen and his coaching staff will take our team,” Loomis declared.
