Last season marked a significant shift in the Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver dynamics.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged as the leading receiver on the team, surpassing both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in receptions and receiving yards—a role that had traditionally been held by them for years. As speculation mounts, Lockett may not return for the 2025 season, while Metcalf is entering the final year of his contract after experiencing his fewest targets since his rookie season.
Despite this, Metcalf recorded 66 receptions from 108 targets. Newly appointed offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak emphasized during his introductory press conference that he envisions Metcalf as a cornerstone of the team’s offensive strategy moving forward into 2025.
“There’s a lot of potential to build on. He possesses incredible skills,” Kubiak noted, according to Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune. “He’s a downfield threat and a strong, physical athlete. I’m genuinely looking forward to collaborating with him because his physical capabilities can significantly enhance our offense.”
Head coach Mike Macdonald mentioned that all offensive coordinator candidates were queried about their vision for Metcalf. He indicated that Kubiak provided the “most compelling vision” for the wide receiver, and that executing this plan will be critical during the offseason in Seattle.
