A young man belonging to a secluded indigenous tribe made a brief visit to a village in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest but chose to return to his community within just 24 hours.
This incident took place on Wednesday, February 12, in Bela Rosa, a settlement situated along the Purus River.
Video footage reveals him walking barefoot and dressed only in a small loincloth, appearing calm and healthy as he carried two logs.
Local residents believe he may have been seeking fire.
Representatives from Brazil’s indigenous affairs agency, Funai, arrived shortly afterward and took him to a nearby facility for assistance.
In an official statement released on Friday, Funai confirmed that the young man chose to return to the forest by Thursday afternoon.
Furthermore, they dispatched a team of healthcare professionals to assess whether he had been exposed to any diseases that isolated indigenous populations might lack immunity against.
Funai noted that monitoring measures have been implemented to prevent outsiders from accessing the territory of this isolated tribe.
As part of its policy, Brazil refrains from actively seeking contact with such groups, instead opting to establish protected and overseen areas like Mamoria Grande, located close to where the encounter occurred.
