In recent weeks, placeholder prices for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating online. Are these listings by retailers accurate? On the latest episode of the Kit & Krysta Podcast, a former Nintendo sales executive attempted to clarify the situation.
When questioned about whether retailers are aware of the pricing for Nintendo’s much-anticipated next-gen hybrid console, this executive stated that these stores “know nothing” and “definitely not the price.” Here’s how the conversation unfolded:
Kit: “We’re seeing a lot of listings like ‘Switch 2 $400’ and people are calling it ‘confirmed.’ What do retailers really know at this stage?”
Sean: “Nothing, nothing… They certainly don’t know the price, and likely don’t have any launch date information beyond perhaps a quarter. It always amuses me to see articles claiming, ‘Walmart Canada says the price will be this.’ Walmart Canada is among the last to have that information.”
His remarks come in light of some recent listings on various retail sites suggesting that the Switch 2 could be priced lower than expected. Analysts have also weighed in with predictions, and speculation is likely to persist until an official price announcement is made.
Nintendo has scheduled a ‘Switch 2 Direct’ presentation for April 2, 2025, which promises to give fans a “closer look” at the new console. We hope to uncover more details about its pricing during this broadcast.
