Three years after stepping down as governor amid controversy, Andrew M. Cuomo is gearing up for a run for mayor of New York City, with an announcement potentially coming this weekend, according to sources involved in the planning.

As a Democrat, Cuomo is keeping his ambitions under wraps, carefully avoiding spontaneous media appearances and interviews. Interestingly, he has refrained from commenting on the scandal surrounding his possible opponent, Mayor Eric Adams.

Behind the scenes, however, the former governor is taking decisive actions to orchestrate a long-awaited comeback that would significantly alter the landscape of the Democratic primary race aimed at unseating Adams in June.

Wealthy supporters have pledged to host fundraising events at upscale Manhattan residences, starting as soon as next Tuesday. Additionally, Cuomo is actively seeking endorsements from other Democrats, including Queens Borough President Donovan Richards and Manhattan Democratic Party Chairman Keith L.T. Wright, following an initial endorsement from his previous rival, H. Carl McCall.

Moreover, he is expected to appoint the political director of the New York City carpenters’ union to a key role in his campaign, signaling a strategic approach to building a formidable team for the upcoming election.
