Amazon is preparing to debut a fresh range of hardware designed to enhance its AI-powered Alexa. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, CEO Andy Jassy announced exciting plans for a “brand new lineup of devices” set to launch this fall, describing them as “beautiful”.

On Wednesday, Amazon unveiled Alexa Plus, an upgraded version of the virtual assistant that offers a more conversational experience and a broader array of functionalities, including the ability to order an Uber or secure concert tickets. According to Amazon, “almost every” existing Alexa device will be compatible with Alexa Plus, with the exception of older Echo models. The subscription fee for Alexa Plus will be $19.99 per month but is included with an Amazon Prime membership.

Although Jassy did not disclose specific details about the upcoming devices, it appears that Amazon is placing a greater emphasis on display technology. Panos Panay, Amazon’s head of devices and services, shared insights with my colleague Jennifer Tuohy, stating, “I believe in screens. I think they matter in a massive way,” hinting at the potential focus on visual interfaces in future products.
