In times of challenge, Mayor Eric Adams has consistently turned to the supportive environment of Black churches. This past Sunday, he visited once again, facing new demands for his resignation.
As he campaigns for re-election in New York City, the Democrat emphasized that he has no intention of stepping down, despite the Justice Department’s recent initiative aimed at dismissing the corruption allegations against him. This situation sparked speculation regarding his ties to President Trump.
“People are celebrating my downfall,” the mayor expressed during his sermon, forecasted his resurgence akin to the biblical Lazarus.
“I have a mission to complete,” he declared at Maranatha Baptist Church in Queens, asserting: “I am not going anywhere.”
The mayor was warmly welcomed at two churches in Queens, where enthusiastic pastors introduced him.
Outside Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Hollis, his second stop, local resident Derrick Hunt, age 63, remarked that the accusations against Mr. Adams appeared politically driven, possibly as a response to the mayor’s critiques of the Biden administration regarding the migrant situation.
