Bungie never ceases to amaze. Occasionally, the creators of Destiny 2 drop surprises for Guardians around the world, introducing secret missions or hidden features without any notice. Recently, the new Barrow Dyad Exotic mission made its debut following the weekly reset, catching players off guard.
Fortunately, we’ve uncovered how to find the Derealize Exotic mission and kick it off, complete with a detailed guide to help you acquire this uniquely designed SMG.
Exploring Nether Blights
If you’ve already delved into Destiny 2’s Episode Heresy, you’re likely familiar with the Nether activity. Initially, it appeared you needed to reload until arriving at the Trenchway or Hall of Souls, but you can actually initiate the Exotic quest from any Nether landing zone. However, a bit of exploration may be necessary before you can begin the quest’s objectives.

Search for a large Taken Blight. Navigate through some concealed platforms and leap into it, then look for a plate on the ground after teleporting. If you have difficulty finding the way, pull out your Ghost, and the platforms will become visible for a short time.
Symbols and Fragments
Once you locate the plate, a symbol and a corresponding message will appear in the lower left corner of your HUD. Ours indicated, “Something whispers to the right…” Proceed in the direction indicated by this message, stepping off the plate to be teleported somewhere new. You’ll discover a Taken Osseous Fragment in a stone bowl; make sure to collect it.

Acquiring the Scotopic Rune
Next, head to the Slab within Eris’s Flat in the Lost City, where you can purchase and activate the Scotopic Rune upgrade, a tier three Runic Enhancement. Activating it will start The Taken Path quest, leading you to seek out something hidden by the Hive in Sorrow’s Harbor.
Navigating the Lost Sector Blights
Travel to the K1 Revelation Lost Sector located in Sorrow’s Harbor. Here, you’ll find a Blight that leads to a plate similar to that in the Nether. Pay attention to the symbol, follow the indicated direction, and eliminate the Taken enemies that spawn before collecting the fragment. Repeat this process in the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector, Veles Labyrinth, where you’ll encounter a Blight in the maze area.

Completing the Curse Quests
Once you finish the two Lost Sectors, head back to the Slab in the Last City, which triggers three “curse” quests: the Curse of Endurance, Curse of Urgency, and Curse of Revenge. These quests can be found in the Altars of Sorrow, the Hallowed Grove, and the Nightmare Hunt: Pride, respectively. Each location will hold a Taken Relic, and killing enemies will extend the timer displayed. After an area unlocks, deposit the Taken Relic into it.
After this, return to the Nether activity. Similar to the King’s Fall raid, you will need to interact with a Hive statue in each area, spawning a mini-boss. Defeating it will grant you another Taken Osseous Fragment. Only after finishing all these tasks can you embark on the Exotic quest titled Derealize.

Embarking on the Derealize Quest
The mission is quite straightforward: You will encounter Tormentors and various Dread faction enemies while pursuing a commander. Upon reaching a large battlefield, you will revisit some actions from earlier steps needed to initiate the mission while dealing with additional curses using a Taken Relic. Once you empower the curse with the Relic, the mini-boss can be damaged. Repeat this process to defeat the boss and then proceed to seek out Blights containing symbols.

Follow a short jumping puzzle to acquire the Corrupted Fragment, then tackle a longer jumping puzzle that brings you to the final boss. The Derealize quest is rich in lore, so we won’t spoil any details here—be attentive if you’re interested in the story. Completing this mission guarantees the drop of the Barrow Dyad Exotic weapon.
After finishing it once, you can embark on a new quest that unlocks intrinsic upgrades for the Barrow Dyad. Keep in mind that you must be at least rank nine at the Slab to access this feature, and more Fragments will need to be located, although these are easily obtainable from the Nether activity.
Discovering the Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG
The Barrow Dyad Exotic SMG boasts a unique appearance, resembling a disc. It features the Panic Response Exotic perk, allowing it to generate Blight as it inflicts damage. When not in use, Blight will deplete, gradually refilling the weapon’s magazine. Reloading converts the accumulated Blight into Blighted Seekers that hone in on enemies, delivering massive damage.
