Authorities arrested two individuals connected to a series of killings across multiple states, including a tragic incident involving a border patrol officer in Coventry, Vermont, last January. The arrests took place on Sunday evening in Allegany County, Maryland, as documented in county records.

Michelle Jacqueline Zajko and Jack Amadeus LaSota, who is also referred to as “Ziz” in media reports, were taken into custody and face several misdemeanor charges, according to court filings in Maryland.

Both individuals were charged with possession of firearms, trespassing on private property, and obstructing a police officer. Additionally, Zajko is facing a charge for resisting arrest.

As of early Monday afternoon, no further details were provided regarding the circumstances surrounding the arrests.

Maryland State Police Officer Brandon Jeffries, stationed in Cumberland, Maryland, was responsible for both arrests, as indicated by county records. Zajko was booked into the Allegany County Detention Center at 6:12 PM, while LaSota was processed at 7:40 PM.

Lt. Elizabeth Shoemake, who oversees operations at the Allegany County Detention Center, confirmed that both Zajko and LaSota are currently in custody. However, she was unable to provide specifics about the arrest situations, mentioning that they were not based on an existing warrant but rather on observed activities.

Both suspects are scheduled for bail review hearings tomorrow.

Federal officials have identified Zajko as a person of interest regarding a January 20 shootout in Coventry, Vermont, that resulted in the deaths of a border patrol agent and another individual. Records indicate that Zajko was once a resident of Coventry and owns property in Derby. Media accounts have also linked LaSota to Zajko.

Lt. Jeremy Stonebraker of the Maryland State Police refrained from commenting on the details of Zajko and LaSota’s arrests. He mentioned that the ongoing investigation is still active and the FBI is involved, which is why no press statements would be issued at this moment.

A staff member at the Allegany County state’s attorney’s office directed inquiries to a specific prosecutor overseeing the case, who was unavailable at that time.

Meanwhile, a representative responding to calls at the FBI office in Baltimore stated it was closed in observance of Presidents Day.
