In a recent social media post, US President Donald Trump shared a video on Truth Social that seems to utilize generative AI. The video proposes a vision of transforming Gaza into a luxurious resort reminiscent of the Gulf states, featuring a golden statue of himself, a hummus-eating Elon Musk, and shirtless leaders from Israel and the US relaxing on the beach.
Accompanying the visuals, a voice proclaims over a lively dance track: “No more tunnels, no more fear. Trump Gaza is finally here!”
Trump has proposed the relocation of 2.1 million Palestinians from Gaza and envisions the area as a “Riviera” that would be managed by the United States.
This idea has been met with strong opposition from the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, which labeled the proposal a “serious violation of international law.” PA Foreign Minister Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen stated recently, “Displacement has been tried before, and it will not happen again,” referencing the mass displacement during the Arab-Israeli conflict of 1948 that resulted in the formation of Israel.
The video opens with images of barefoot Palestinian children navigating through the rubble of Gaza as a title card poses the question: “What’s next?” They journey towards a skyline of skyscrapers that line Gaza’s coastal road.
“Donald’s coming to set you free,” a voice sings. “Trump Gaza shining bright. Golden future, a brand-new light. Feast and dance. The deed is done.”
The video presents an unusual mix of imagery, featuring both bearded and bikini-clad belly dancers, a child holding a golden balloon shaped like Trump’s head, and Elon Musk dancing on a beach amidst a shower of US dollars.
It remains uncertain whether Trump plans to proceed with his controversial expulsion strategy. Following strong objections from leaders in Egypt and Jordan, Trump mentioned in a recent interview with Fox News that, “The way to do it is my plan. I think that’s the plan that really works. But I’m not forcing it. I’m just going to sit back and recommend it.”
A CNN poll conducted via telephone and online in mid-February indicated that Trump’s proposal for Gaza, which denies Palestinians the right of return, ranked as the least favored action among those queried. Only 13% of Americans regarded it as a “good thing,” while 58% considered it a “bad thing.”
In light of Trump’s controversial plan, Arab leaders convened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to discuss their collective response to the United States’ potential ownership of Gaza.
As the Truth Social video concludes with the phrase “Trump Gaza, number one!” the camera zooms in on Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu enjoying refreshments on a beach.
CNN has reached out to the Palestinian Authority and Hamas for their reactions to the video, as well as seeking clarification from the White House.
