Almost 100 migrants who were recently expelled from the United States to Panama have been transported to a detention facility located on the edge of a jungle. This transfer occurred on Tuesday night, as shared by several members of the migrant group.

The fate of the group, which was deported as part of a significant initiative by the Trump administration aimed at removing unauthorized immigrants, remains uncertain regarding the length of their detention in this jungle facility.

According to detainees, the living conditions at the camp are extremely basic. The region is known for the prevalence of diseases such as dengue fever, and access to journalists and humanitarian organizations has been restricted by the government.

One deportee, 27-year-old Artemis Ghasemzadeh from Iran, described the environment, stating, “It resembles a zoo, with fenced enclosures.” After a four-hour journey from Panama City to the camp, he reported, “We were offered only a stale piece of bread. We’re sitting on the floor.”

The group includes eight children, as noted by an individual familiar with the circumstances who wishes to remain anonymous. Legal representatives argue that detaining individuals in Panama for over 24 hours without a court order is unlawful.

As of now, the Panamanian government has not publicly addressed the relocation of migrants to the jungle detention site.
