Investor sentiment improved following the release of January’s producer price index and Wednesday’s consumer price index report, which indicated a potentially softer measurement for the personal consumption expenditures price index. This price index is favored by the Federal Reserve as a key inflation metric and is scheduled for release later this month.
Despite Thursday’s positive market closure, Mark Malek, chief investment officer at Siebert, cautioned that the current relief and upward momentum following the tariff pause might be fleeting.
“We may face market pressure on Friday — there wasn’t enough definitive stimulus to sustain the market in this manner… There was nothing said by the president that seemed particularly advantageous for the market,” Malek shared during a CNBC interview. “Friday will likely be a day where market participants attempt to interpret the implications of the recent developments.”
As it stands, the major indices are positioned to finish the week on a high note, with the S&P 500 and Dow projected to rise by approximately 1.5% and 0.9%, respectively. The Nasdaq is showing a week-to-date increase of 2.2%.
