After the recent announcement of Tides of Annihilation during the latest State of Play event, we are excited to present our exclusive roundtable discussion with the developers from Eclipse Glow Games, which took place at Gamescom 2024. We also have some unique screenshots to share, provided by the developers as a thank-you for our early support of the game. Enjoy these images throughout the article!
Tides of Annihilation, powered by the impressive Unreal Engine 5, is currently in development for both PC and consoles, aiming for a release in 2026. This action-adventure title depicts London facing a catastrophic Outworld invasion, leaving the main character, Gwendolyn, as the apparent sole survivor. However, she soon uncovers her ability to command the legendary Knights of the Round Table from Arthurian lore. With this newfound power, Gwendolyn embarks on a quest to rescue her sister, uncover her true heritage, and protect both London and the enchanting realm of Avalon.

Tides of Annihilation appears stunning. Is the combat more aligned with titles like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, or closer to Soulslike games?
The combat system definitely takes inspiration from Devil May Cry. Unlike many Soulslike games, we offer various difficulty modes. Our controls are intentionally designed to be accessible, allowing players who enjoy action games to dive in without needing to be hardcore enthusiasts.
WCCFTECH: Will there be any RPG elements, such as leveling up?
Absolutely. There will be levels and skill trees, although it won’t be as in-depth as you might find in traditional action RPGs or Soulslike games.
WCCFTECH: Can players acquire better equipment?
Yes, players can collect different armors, although these items are primarily aesthetic and do not enhance gameplay mechanics.
Will the game launch across all platforms simultaneously?
That is our goal, yes.
The combat system in Devil May Cry emphasizes Devil Arms. Will Tides of Annihilation also allow for varied playstyles?
Yes, it will offer different playstyles.
How many weapon types will be featured in the game?
We’re planning to include four different types.

Can you reveal which weapons will be available?
Sure! Players can expect to wield fists, swords, and bows—though I seem to have forgotten the fourth weapon!
What led to the choice of a Western setting?
To provide some context, this project and Black Myth: Wukong are both backed by Tencent. While Black Myth: Wukong targets the Chinese market, we have designed this game with a Western audience in mind, drawing inspiration from Arthurian legends. The idea originated when our producer envisioned a knight-centered narrative, leading to the integration of the Knights of the Round Table theme.
We engaged with your team early in development to gather feedback from our intended Western audience, as this is our debut title, and we aim to refine the game for its final release.
Can you provide an update on the game’s development status?
We are currently in the Alpha stage, and we plan to enter the beta phase by the end of 2024, with a launch on the horizon in 2026.
WCCFTECH: You mentioned the possibility of expanding the franchise into other settings and mythologies. Would you keep the same character, or would each game feature a new protagonist?
We plan to introduce a new protagonist for future titles but intend to maintain the Outworld invasion concept from Tides of Annihilation.

Do you have an estimated gameplay length?
The game is projected to offer over thirty hours of gameplay on average.
How many bosses can players expect to encounter?
There will be over thirty bosses, each possessing unique abilities, promising players a series of challenging encounters.
Thank you for sharing your insights.
