Three American women tragically lost their lives over the weekend at a beach resort in Belize, prompting police investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths, which are being examined as potential drug overdoses.

Authorities in Belize have identified the deceased as local residents from Revere, Massachusetts: Kaoutar Naqqad, 23, Imane Mallah, 24, and Wafae El-Arar, 26. They were guests at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort, but further details have not yet been disclosed.

In an official statement on social media, the city of Revere expressed its condolences: “The City of Revere extends our heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the three local women who tragically and unexpectedly passed away in Belize.”

Resort staff attempted to reach the women multiple times on Friday after observing them enter their rooms on Thursday night without returning. When no response was received by Saturday morning, the staff used a master key to access the rooms and discovered the women unresponsive.

The precise cause of death has not been determined. First responders indicated that the women were found with frothy fluid around their mouths, pointing to the possibility of a drug overdose. Police reports showed no evidence of forced entry or visible injuries, though snacks, drinks, vaping devices, and other electronics were found in the room with the women.

The Royal Kahal is an upscale beachfront resort located on Ambergris Caye in San Pedro Town, Belize, according to its official website. Investigations are ongoing as police work to uncover more details.

Additionally, the U.S. State Department issued a travel advisory for Belize on December 30, 2024, citing concerns over crime. The advisory warns that violent crimes, including sexual assault, armed robberies, home invasions, and even murder, are prevalent, even in daytime tourist areas.
