Ubisoft has exciting news for Rainbow Six Siege fans! During the championship weekend of the Six Invitational, the company revealed plans to unveil a new chapter for the beloved tactical shooter on March 13 at the Siege X Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. Players will soon get to experience a fresh attacker operator named Rauora, who hails from New Zealand.
This highly anticipated update promises to be the most significant transformation in the history of Rainbow Six Siege. Although details are still under wraps, Ubisoft hinted at extensive graphical and audio enhancements along with enriched tactical gameplay. They also teased “new ways to play,” leaving fans eager to discover what innovative features are on the horizon, such as potential new game modes.
Rauora will debut in Year 10 Season 1, part of the Operation Prep Phase battle pass, and can be unlocked using Renown or R6 credits two weeks after her release. Players can equip Rauora with formidable weapons including the 417 marksman rifle or the M249 light machine gun as her primary choices. For her secondary weapon, she has the GSH-18 9mm pistol or the newly introduced Reaper MK2 machine pistol, which boasts a red dot sight and an extended magazine.
One of Rauora’s standout gadgets is the Deployable Omnilink Mesh Launcher (DOM). This innovative bulletproof barrier functions exclusively in doorways, extending all the way to the ground. Its smart technology allows DOM to identify nearby ally drones and grant them access by raising itself. The barrier also features a trigger at the top that any operator can activate by shooting it. Although attackers and defenders can manipulate the barrier, attackers benefit more from its potential. When first deployed or recently closed, defenders will be temporarily locked out, and only an attacking operator’s presence will reactivate it. Furthermore, it opens significantly faster when triggered by an attacker.
While Rauora’s barriers are designed to withstand bullets, they are vulnerable to explosions and cannot dismantle Castle’s reinforced barricades if they are already in place or if Tubarão’s Zoto Canister is active. Moreover, Jäger’s Active Defense System (ADS) can take out DOM before it has a chance to deploy.
Initially launched in 2015, Rainbow Six Siege has secured its place as one of Ubisoft’s flagship live-service games. The title has received considerable updates over the years, including the recent introduction of full cross-play functionality and more stringent anti-cheat measures, which now enforce instant permanent bans for cheaters.
Despite ongoing speculation about a sequel, Rainbow Six creator director Alexander Karpazis affirmed that Rainbow Six Siege is a game that could “last forever,” offering reassurance to its loyal player base even as it approaches its tenth anniversary. In addition, Ubisoft’s leadership has indicated that they will continue to invest in open-world and live-service gaming models in the future.
