It’s unmistakable when Stephen A. Smith is feeling passionate.
On Friday, the renowned ESPN commentator expressed his frustration in response to the New York Yankees’ decision to hold an extended press conference focused on their revised facial hair guidelines.
During the conference, the Yankees revealed the update to their decades-old facial hair policy.
“After thorough deliberation, we have decided to adapt our standards to permit well-groomed beards for players and staff going forward,” stated owner Hal Steinbrenner.
“It is time to move past the familiar confines of our previous policy.”
While Smith is a committed Yankees supporter, his issue was not with the policy change itself.
His frustration stemmed from the team’s decision to spend an entire 20 minutes talking about it.
“A 20-minute press conference for facial hair? What a disgrace,” Smith remarked on ESPN.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he continued. “As a die-hard Yankees fan, I’m trying to stay composed, but come on! You haven’t won a World Series since 2009. You didn’t even make it back until last year when you faced a major defeat against the Dodgers.
“And facial hair is the reason behind this press conference?”
While the Yankees did return to the World Series last season, it’s important to note that they haven’t celebrated a championship since their last title in 2009.

With the recent loss of Juan Soto to the rival Mets, fans like Smith are growing increasingly frustrated with the organization, as their World Series drought approaches the two-decade mark.
