According to league sources, the Los Angeles Rams are set to hold an in-person meeting with quarterback Matthew Stafford on Friday to discuss his future with the team.

This crucial meeting, scheduled to occur at the Rams’ training facility, comes amid a surge in interest on the trade market for Stafford over the past week.

Sources reveal that both the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants have proposed two-year contracts for Stafford, offering guaranteed amounts ranging from $90 million to $100 million. As the situation unfolds, the Rams have granted Stafford’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, permission to negotiate with other teams, reflecting the ongoing contract disputes between the franchise and their star quarterback.

The Rams and Stafford initially engaged in discussions prior to the Super Bowl, but the talks stalled as both parties couldn’t agree on a suitable valuation for the quarterback. By permitting his agent to engage with other teams, Stafford now has the opportunity to assess his market worth.

As previously highlighted by The Athletic, the Rams are hesitant to make a significant financial or long-term commitment to a 37-year-old quarterback, especially given uncertainties around his future and durability. Despite these concerns, Stafford’s proven performance arguably provides Los Angeles with its best chance of immediate success, particularly since he has only missed one game due to injury between 2023 and 2024.
