Doug Nussmeier, quarterbacks coach for the Eagles, has followed Kellen Moore across several teams, transitioning from the Cowboys to the Chargers and now to the Eagles. There’s a possibility he might join Moore once again, this time with the Saints.
According to Ian Rapoport from NFL Media, Nussmeier is scheduled to interview for the Saints’ offensive coordinator position on Sunday.
Nussmeier’s ties to the Saints run deep; he was drafted by the team in 1994 and played a total of five games with two starts during the 1996-97 seasons. The former quarterback later found success in the Canadian Football League (CFL), winning a Grey Cup with the British Columbia Lions in 2000.
He embarked on his coaching journey in the CFL starting in 1997.
While Nussmeier has not held the title of offensive coordinator in the NFL, he has taken on that role at prominent colleges including Florida, Michigan, Alabama, Washington, and Fresno State. His professional coaching experience includes positions such as quarterbacks coach for the Rams (2006-07), tight ends coach for the Cowboys (2018-19), quarterbacks coach for the Cowboys (2020-22), quarterbacks coach for the Chargers (2023), and now quarterbacks coach for the Eagles (2024).
If hired, Nussmeier would be closer to his son, Garrett Nussmeier, who plays quarterback for LSU and is among the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy in 2025.
Additionally, the Saints are also set to interview former Chargers head coach Brandon Staley on Sunday for their defensive coordinator role.
Robert Prince, a receiver coach for the Dolphins, has already interviewed for the Saints’ offensive coordinator position, adding another layer of connection considering his longstanding relationship with Kellen Moore.
