While “mutual understanding” doesn’t equate to a finalized contract agreement, the report indicates that if the Rams and Raiders reach an accord on a trade, there’s a strong likelihood Stafford and the Raiders can agree on a contract.

The crucial issue remains whether the Rams and Raiders can find a consensus. The report highlights that the Raiders “are determined to retain their No. 6 draft pick at all costs.” If the Raiders refuse to surrender their first-round pick in exchange for Stafford, they may miss out on him, even if they agree on the financial aspects.

There is still a chance the Rams may opt to keep Stafford. In fact, the Raiders’ progress in negotiating with Stafford could facilitate discussions between the Rams and Stafford. However, the Rams have signaled their openness to trade by allowing Stafford to engage in conversations with other teams. Meanwhile, the ongoing dialogue between the Raiders and Stafford appears to be encouraging.
