On Sunday evening, an update regarding Pope Francis’ health was provided, indicating that the Holy Father is currently receiving treatment for a respiratory infection in the hospital and that his therapy is progressing smoothly.

“Pope Francis had a restful night, and his overall clinical condition remains stable. The medical team continues to carry out the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This morning, he received the Eucharist and participated in Holy Mass via television. In the afternoon, he balanced his time between reading and resting,” stated Matteo Bruni, Director of the Holy See Press Office, in a statement to reporters.

The Pope was admitted to Agostino Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Friday due to a persistent bronchitis. Following a series of medical tests, his medication regimen has been adjusted, and he has not suffered from any fever episodes.

To facilitate his recovery, the medical team has advised “complete rest.” Consequently, the special Jubilee Audience for Artists and the Cultural World scheduled for Saturday was canceled. Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonca, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, celebrated Holy Mass on behalf of Pope Francis on Sunday morning.
