As one of the pioneering MMORPGs in the gaming landscape, Tibia is set to introduce an exciting new class for the first time in its nearly 30-year journey, according to developer CipSoft. The Monk class will complement Tibia’s original quartet: Sorcerer, Paladin, Druid, and Knight, all of which debuted with the iconic 2D MMO back in 1997.
CipSoft unveiled details in a blog post along with a teaser video, indicating that the Monk will serve as a melee combatant while also providing support by healing teammates. The developers emphasized their intention to create a unique gameplay experience for the Monk, ensuring it fits naturally within the world of Tibia and works harmoniously alongside the existing classes. They were particularly keen to introduce a new melee option that also exhibits healing capabilities without overlapping with the supportive roles of Paladins and Sorcerers.
CipSoft pointed out that a primary objective was to establish the Monk as a distinct vocation that enhances the game without diminishing the value of the other classes. “We are very excited about introducing the Monk and hope players look forward to witnessing its unique capabilities in action,” they stated.
The Monk will come equipped with special mechanics, including the Harmony, Virtue, and Serene systems. Players can generate Harmony through particular attacks, which can then be harnessed for a significant power boost. Additionally, Monks will have access to Virtue buffs, offering a range of powerful enhancements. When in a Serene state—achievable during solo gameplay or when facing six or fewer enemies—Monks will gain considerable strength, though this mechanic is designed to prevent them from surpassing the damage potential of other classes or the Knight’s tanking abilities outside of that state.
CipSoft has announced plans to publish a series of five blogs over the coming days and weeks, providing insights into the Monk’s design and development process. The new class is expected to become playable later this year, with a testing phase beginning on February 25.
Tibia operates on a free-to-play model, with an optional premium subscription that offers various benefits, including experience boosts, access to additional game areas, the ability to purchase housing, and more perks.
