In a conversation on the social media platform of ALK + Lung Cancer UK, 47-year-old Jenny revealed that she displayed none of the typical symptoms associated with lung cancer.
Jenny was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer

“A year ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer,” Jenny shared with the audience. “I didn’t experience any shortness of breath.”
While going about her daily routine, she noticed something unusual in a family selfie.
“One evening, while taking a picture with my kids, I realized half of my face wasn’t functioning,” Jenny explained.
“Upon visiting the doctor, I was sent to the hospital, where I experienced a significant seizure. After regaining consciousness, I was informed that I had a lung tumor.”
Facial paralysis is rare in lung cancer cases, but it can occur if the disease spreads to the cranial bones affecting the facial nerve.
When this nerve suffers damage, patients may experience weakness or paralysis on one side of their face.
ALK + Lung Cancer UK commented: “Jenny’s experience illustrates that lung cancer can affect anyone. Facial paralysis was the unforeseen symptom that led to her diagnosis of Stage 4 EGFR+ lung cancer.”
Common symptoms of cancer include persistent cough, chest pain, and unexplained weight loss.

“Since her diagnosis, Jenny has gained a renewed outlook on life, cherishing every moment and seeking joy in the small things,” her story reveals.
“Lung cancer symptoms can often be subtle and might not always involve breathing difficulties. Signs like fatigue, ongoing pain, or a chronic cough warrant attention, regardless of age or smoking background.
“If something doesn’t feel right, it’s important to consult your healthcare provider. Early diagnosis leads to more effective treatment.”
The NHS indicates that common signs of lung cancer include a persistent cough, chest discomfort, and weight fluctuations.
