The upcoming UFC event—marking its first occurrence in over ten years—will feature two thrilling title matches as its main attractions.
Welterweight champion Belal Muhammad is set to defend his championship against Jack Della Maddalena in the headline match at UFC 315, scheduled for May 10 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as announced by the promotion on Wednesday.
Additionally, the women’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko, will take on French contender Manon Fiorot in a five-round co-main event.
Muhammad (24-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) makes his return to the octagon following a serious toe infection that caused him to withdraw from a previously scheduled title matchup against Shavkat Rakhmonov in December. Rakhmonov subsequently faced Ian Machado Garry and emerged victorious. Injuries prevented Rakhmonov from challenging Muhammad.
In the meantime, Della Maddalena (17-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) stepped up to fill the void, having previously been slated to face Leon Edwards at a UFC Fight Night event on March 22 in London, a fight now taken over by Sean Brady.
Della Maddalena seizes this title opportunity just over three years into his UFC career, with impressive victories against notable fighters such as Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland on his résumé.
Shevchenko (24-4-1 MMA, 13-3-1 UFC) will be competing against someone other than Alexa Grasso for the first time in her last four bouts. The two fighters engaged in a trilogy, concluding with a split record of 1-1-1. Currently, Shevchenko is on a high after reclaiming her title from Grasso last September.
Fiorot (12-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) has the chance to become the first champion from France if she secures a victory. To date, Fiorot remains undefeated in the UFC, boasting wins against Erin Blanchfield and Rose Namajunas, among others.
Additionally, a highly anticipated welterweight clash between Gilbert Burns (22-8 MMA, 15-8 UFC) and Michael Morales (17-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC)—originally scheduled for UFC 314 in Miami—will now take place at UFC 315 in Montreal, bringing the total number of confirmed fights on the card to seven.
