McLaren has made history as the first Formula 1 team to showcase its 2025 vehicle, the MCL39, which was recently put through its paces at Silverstone.
After clinching the constructors’ championship in 2024, the team is conducting a filming day with the MCL39 donning a camouflage livery. This comes ahead of the official reveal of its 2025 design at the F1 75 event scheduled for next week. Lando Norris was the first to take the car for a spin at the iconic British Grand Prix venue on a chilly Thursday morning, with Oscar Piastri scheduled to take over later in the day.
Zak Brown, McLaren’s Racing Director, has expressed his ambition to secure both the drivers’ and constructors’ titles this season, following their accomplishments from the previous year.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our quest for the 2025 championship,” stated Brown. “It’s thrilling to see our contender, the MCL39, on the track for the first time, representing the hard work of our entire team.
“We need to be realistic; every team has likely made strides during the winter break. Last year showcased just how closely competitive the field is, which is fantastic for the sport. We believe we have made further advancements since our championship-winning MCL38, but we won’t know our position until we hit the qualifying sessions in Australia.
“Our team is relentless in our pursuit, and we are committed to doing everything we can to bring both titles to Woking.”
Team Principal Andrea Stella noted that 2025 is expected to witness tighter competition across the grid, but he believes McLaren will benefit from its experience last season.
“We are thrilled to see the MCL39 make its debut at Silverstone today,” said Stella. “Finishing last year as champions was significant, but 2024 reminded us of the fierce competition we face, which will undoubtedly extend into this year’s championship. We must remain focused if we are to contend at the forefront of this tight pack. The upcoming season is set to be both exciting and incredibly challenging.
“Our team has worked incredibly hard to prepare meticulously for the start of the season. We gained invaluable insights from our battles last year, which we will leverage to further our objectives.
“I extend my gratitude to the entire team for their dedication in getting the car ready for today’s outing, as well as to our partners at Mercedes HPP for their ongoing support. Now, we turn our attention to maximizing our testing time ahead of the first competitive session in Australia.”
