Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Captain America, made a memorable appearance at the Daytona 500 by substituting his iconic “Avengers assemble” with the command for drivers to rev their engines.
There was much for Mackie to celebrate at the Daytona event, as his new film, “Captain America: Brave New World,” is projected to earn nearly $100 million over the holiday weekend, leading the box office charts.
A lifelong NASCAR enthusiast, Mackie shared that he has watched the Daytona 500 each year since childhood, cherishing the sport’s excitement.
“It’s thrilling to be here and witness this in person while receiving such a warm welcome,” Mackie expressed. “With the film at number one alongside America’s prestigious race, it’s a truly remarkable moment. It feels like two perfect events coming together at just the right time. I couldn’t have asked for a more ideal situation.”
Prior to the race, Mackie noted the challenge of choosing a favorite catchphrase between the iconic phrases associated with the Avengers and NASCAR.
“Both phrases are legendary, rallying everyone towards action,” he said. “I just hope I don’t mix them up!”
While Mackie identified as a fan of Jimmie Johnson, he placed his bets on three-time Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin for the race.
“He’s driving a strong car with a reputation for speed,” Mackie commented.
