Tashard Choice, the former running back for the Cowboys, recently interviewed for the position of running backs coach with the team but was not selected for the role.
However, he has landed an even more prestigious opportunity.
According to CBSSports.com’s Matt Zenitz, the Detroit Lions are poised to hire Choice as their new running backs coach. Currently, he is serving in a similar capacity at the University of Texas.
During his tenure at Georgia Tech from 2020 to 2021, Choice had the chance to mentor Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
Clarence E. Hill Jr. from alldlls.com previously reported that Choice’s salary was set at $700,000 in 2024, with an increase to $750,000 in 2025. It’s likely that the Lions will offer him a more attractive compensation package.
Scottie Montgomery, who is currently the assistant head coach and running backs coach for the Lions, will transition to the role of receivers coach. Montgomery has experience in this position, having spent three years with the Steelers from 2010 to 2012.
