Markelle Fultz, the free-agent guard, has finalized a contract with the Sacramento Kings, according to an announcement by his agent and attorney, Raymond Brothers of I AM Sports & Entertainment, late Wednesday evening.
The Kings have been on the lookout for a point guard since the departure of De’Aaron Fox prior to the trade deadline. With the addition of Fultz—who was drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA Draft—the team hopes to solidify its backcourt. Following a successful rehabilitation from an injury in the offseason, Fultz attracted interest from various clubs and eventually narrowed down his choices before securing a deal with the Kings.
According to Brothers, Fultz is now fully fit and prepared for the upcoming season.
At 26 years old, Fultz has dedicated the past 5½ seasons to the Orlando Magic, where he stood out as the starting point guard in two of those seasons. His 2023-24 season was particularly impressive; he achieved career highs by averaging 13.9 points, 5.7 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 29.6 minutes of play per game.
Although Fultz faced challenges with injuries last season, managing to play in only 43 games, he is optimistic about moving forward.
The Kings have been on a winning streak, claiming victory in their last three games and boasting a 15-8 record since parting ways with Mike Brown and appointing Doug Christie as interim head coach. During Fox’s absence, the team has primarily utilized Malik Monk as their main point guard.
