The revival of Fatal Fury has primarily spotlighted its protagonists since the game’s announcement last year, but it’s finally time to shift gears and explore the motives of the villains.
SNK has officially unveiled Kain R. Heinlein as the latest playable character in *Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves*, complemented by a gameplay trailer showcased during the Evo Awards, marking his return after a 25-year hiatus.
Kain previously appeared as a secret final boss in *Garou: Mark of the Wolves*, where he was only accessible through a hidden code on the character selection screen.
Now, he’s set to join the main character roster, and he’s not holding back.
This uncle of Rock Howard brings back some familiar normals and special moves, including Schwarze Flamme, Schwarze Panzer, Schwarze Stoß, and his Supers, Himmlische Atem and Himmlische Seele.
The former extra boss seems to have picked up a few new tricks along the way, potentially featuring a new trap and taking advantage of the REV bonuses offered by the systems in *City of the Wolves*.
It will be intriguing to determine whether SNK retains Kain’s charge-based moves from *Garou* or opts for motion input, or perhaps even a blend of both styles.
As Geese Howard’s brother-in-law, Kain marks the 14th character confirmed for the base roster, following the announcements of Gato and Kim Dong Hwan, with more characters still to be revealed.
Kain will also be among the eight playable characters featured in the open beta for Fatal Fury launching next week, ensuring fans won’t have to wait long to experience his gameplay firsthand.
*Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves* is set to launch on April 24, 2025, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
