Recent scans conducted in Bengaluru over the weekend indicated that while there are no serious issues, Bumrah is not yet ready to resume bowling. The exact timeline for his return remains uncertain. He is expected to start running in a few weeks, gradually working his way back to bowling. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will closely monitor his recovery process.
When the BCCI revealed the provisional squad for both the Champions Trophy and the England series back in January, Rana was tapped as Bumrah’s backup for the ODI games against England. He debuted in the first match in Nagpur, sharing the new ball with Mohammed Shami. Although he faced a tough start when Phil Salt hit him for 26 runs in one over, Rana rebounded impressively, claiming three wickets and playing a crucial role in securing India’s victory.
Rohit also emphasized that with uncertainties surrounding Bumrah’s fitness, the decision-makers felt confident in Shami’s ability to handle the early overs, while left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh would expertly manage the death overs.
