Title: Jake Burger Hits Home Run Shortly After Daughter’s Surgery
Meta Description: In a heartfelt moment, Texas Rangers’ infielder Jake Burger returned to his Nashville home to support his family during his daughter Penelope’s open heart surgery. Just days later, he celebrated personal success on the field.
SURPRISE, Ariz. – Instead of practicing on the fields in Surprise, Texas, Rangers player Jake Burger made the journey back to his family in Nashville this week. His four-month-old daughter, Penelope, recently underwent successful open-heart surgery on February 24 at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.
Born with Down Syndrome on October 25, Penelope had managed to avoid surgery immediately after her birth while in the neonatal intensive care unit. However, her condition required later intervention.
“It all went well,” Burger commented on Thursday regarding the surgery.
“It was an exceptional team, from top to bottom,” he continued. “I have immense respect for the doctors and nurses who deal with these challenges every day. While we enjoy playing a game, their dedication is inspiring. We were incredibly fortunate to have such a skilled team supporting us.”
Jake’s wife, Ashlyn, expressed their gratitude online, stating, “Penelope’s surgery was a success!! We cannot find the words to thank her surgeon, Dr. Carlos Mery, and the entire medical staff at Vanderbilt. Thank you all for your prayers; they were truly felt.”
Burger, who proudly wears No. 21 to honor Penelope and others with Down Syndrome, showed his commitment by returning to Arizona shortly after Penelope’s operation. In his first game back, he celebrated with a home run, proudly wearing Penelope’s hospital bracelet on his wrist.
“It’s a tough situation,” Burger reflected. “I empathize with all the parents who have to face similar circumstances. Thankfully, everything went smoothly for us, and Penelope is recovering well. It was a true test of faith during the wait. My belief in God, my family, and the strength we all drew from this experience has only deepened. We feel blessed to have Penelope healing, and I’m eager to dive back into playing for the Rangers.”
“Now, our focus is on ensuring she stays healthy and preparing to have the family join me in Texas for the upcoming season.”
