The first beta release of iOS 18.4 is now accessible, featuring a minor yet beneficial update for CarPlay.
As highlighted in our overview of iOS 18.4 features, CarPlay now accommodates a third row of icons, increasing from the previous two rows. However, this enhancement is exclusively visible in vehicles equipped with larger center displays. For instance, a user on the MacRumors Forums observed this update in a Toyota Tundra, which offers up to a 14-inch display.
In our experiments, we noticed that CarPlay continued to display just two rows of four icons in a Honda Civic, which features a 9-inch screen.
Although this is a minor enhancement, having additional icons available in CarPlay is a nice upgrade for users, enabling drivers to access more applications with less need to swipe through pages.
After the beta testing phase, iOS 18.4 is set to be publicly released in early April.
