NEW YORK — Igloo is recalling over 1 million of its coolers distributed across the United States, Canada, and Mexico due to safety concerns regarding the handle, which has led to multiple fingertip injuries, including some amputations.
The recalled “Igloo 90 Qt. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers” have been linked to a handle design that can crush fingers, leading to serious injuries, including amputations, according to a recall alert from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released on Thursday.
The CPSC noted that Igloo has received reports of 12 injuries within the United States, which include fingertip amputations, fractures, and cuts. There have been no reported injuries in Canada or Mexico.
Customers who own these coolers are strongly advised to stop using them immediately and to contact Igloo for a complimentary replacement handle.
The recalled Igloo coolers were available for purchase at major retailers including Costco, Target, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and Amazon between 2019 and January 2025, priced between $80 and $140. Approximately 1.06 million units are estimated to have been sold in the U.S., with an additional 47,000 in Canada and 23,000 in Mexico.
Consumers can identify the defective products by their model number and description. They were sold in various colors, featuring the “IGLOO” logo on the side, and were manufactured in the U.S. before January 2024.
For more information regarding the recall, customers can register online or contact Igloo’s Katy, Texas office at 888-943-5182 or via email at igloo90qt@sedgwick.com to arrange for a handle replacement.
Igloo stated that they are recalling these rolling coolers and offering free replacement handles “with consumer safety as our main priority.” The company emphasized their commitment to enhancing product safety through intensive testing and proactive improvements to meet the highest standards.
