Kadarius Toney, a professional wide receiver, was apprehended last week in Georgia on two serious charges, as indicated by online records.
The 26-year-old was taken into custody at a facility in Douglas County, Georgia, on February 6, facing charges of aggravated assault with strangulation and interference with emergency calls. A bail of $25,000 was set for each offense by the presiding judge.
Records indicate that Toney was no longer in custody the following day, February 7.
According to a report by TMZ Sports, which referenced police files, Toney allegedly placed his hand around a woman’s neck on January 14, applying pressure “with enough force to restrict her ability to breathe.” The woman exhibited visible signs of injury, including red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.
Additionally, he purportedly took the woman’s phone to prevent her from contacting the authorities.
In the 2023 season, Toney appeared in three games for the Cleveland Browns before his release in December. His departure followed a taunting penalty and a muffed punt during a loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Toney was a first-round draft pick for the New York Giants in 2021 and was later traded mid-season to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022. He notably contributed a crucial punt return in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII, aiding the Chiefs in securing a 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite expectations for him to emerge as the top wide receiver for the Chiefs in 2023, his performance did not reach those heights and he remained inactive throughout all four playoff games as Kansas City clinched consecutive championships.
