The Los Angeles Dodgers have officially signed outfielder Eddie Rosario to a minor league contract, as reported by Ari Alexander of KPRC2. Rosario has been on the lookout for a new opportunity since his release from a minor league contract with the Mets last August.

With a decade of MLB experience under his belt, Rosario’s career peak occurred in 2021 when he faced the Dodgers in the NLCS. During that series, he showcased an impressive .647 OPS across 28 plate appearances, which earned him the NLCS MVP title as the Braves triumphed over Los Angeles. Rosario celebrated a World Series victory alongside his teammates as Atlanta defeated the Astros.

Following the championship, the Braves re-signed Rosario to a two-year, $18 million deal, but the last three years have been challenging for him. He struggled at the plate in 2022, but rebounded in 2023 with a respectable 21-home run performance. However, this resurgence was not enough for Atlanta to pick up his $9 million club option for the 2024 season.

Rosario then transitioned to the Washington Nationals, where his performance significantly declined, leading to his release in July. A short return to the Braves didn’t help revitalize his batting either. His brief time with the Mets resulted in no major league appearances, and his overall 2024 statistics reflected a disappointing .175/.215/.316 in 319 plate appearances combined with the Nationals and Braves.

For the Dodgers, signing Rosario presents little risk as they explore whether the 33-year-old can recapture his previous form after a series of inconsistent seasons. While making the opening day roster with one of the strongest lineups in MLB could be a challenge, Rosario may still earn a spot if injuries arise or if he impresses during spring training. A productive performance in the Cactus League might also enhance his prospects for other teams should he decide to opt out of his minor league contract before spring training concludes.
