DENVER, Colorado (KRDO) – On Thursday morning, it seemed that all Del Taco locations in Colorado were set to close.

A visit by KRDO13 to the Colorado Springs establishments revealed a notice affixed to the door of one outlet, indicating that all Del Taco restaurants in Colorado will be closed starting February 27, 2025, until further notice.

Later that evening, Del Taco reached out to KRDO13 to clarify that the Denver and Colorado Springs restaurants are temporarily shut down and will be reopened “as soon as possible.” They also confirmed that the Grand Junction location remains operational, as it is run by a separate franchisee from the Front Range sites.

Here is the complete statement from Del Taco:

“Del Taco has been proud to serve Colorado since 2003, and we truly value the support of our loyal customers. Currently, our franchise locations in Denver and Colorado Springs are temporarily closed. We are committed to reopening these locations as soon as possible and will provide updates as they become available. The Del Taco in Grand Junction, which is managed by a different franchisee, continues to be open for business. We appreciate your understanding and support.”

Court documents obtained by KRDO13 reveal that Newport Venture, the franchisee managing the 18 impacted restaurants, has recently encountered financial difficulties.

The documents indicate that Del Taco is hopeful that either they or another franchisee will take control of the properties, enabling them to “immediately step in to retain and compensate employees at these locations, alleviating some of the hardship for those frontline workers who might otherwise find themselves without jobs.”

Additionally, legal filings suggest that the franchisee failed to remit a payment of $125,000 owed to Del Taco by the October 17 deadline.
