A ship in distress.
Spencer Aronfeld, an attorney who specializes in lawsuits against cruise lines, has publicly criticized Royal Caribbean following the shocking findings of a recent inspection conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Known on TikTok as @cruiseshiplawyer, Aronfeld posted a video last week detailing the serious violations found during the CDC’s examination of the Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas.
According to Aronfeld, the most pressing concern was the improper storage of raw eggs and raw hamburger meat at inadequate refrigeration temperatures on the ship.
Additionally, he noted that some employees at Johnny Rockets were seen with open wounds and handling ice without gloves.
Furthermore, Aronfeld mentioned that multiple children experienced severe gastrointestinal issues while at daycare facilities on board. The daycare failed to adhere to proper protocols for referring affected children to medical staff or for reporting these illnesses—characterized by projectile diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain—to the CDC.
This failure, according to Aronfeld, increased the likelihood of young passengers transmitting a potential norovirus to their families and other guests on the ship.
The CDC rated the ship with a score of 86 in their inspection report, which Aronfeld described as “barely acceptable.”
“Had they scored one point lower—an 85—it would have marked an inadequate evaluation, possibly leading to the cancellation of the cruise,” the legal expert explained. “Honestly, I believe they should have canceled.”
Aronfeld assessed that rectifying these issues would cost Royal Caribbean around $65,000 within a limited timeframe.
In a subsequent video, he mentioned that as of February 21, Royal Caribbean had not submitted a corrective action report to address the CDC’s concerns.
This absence of action led Aronfeld to suspect that these issues may still persist. “The ship is currently in operation with passengers aboard, and I truly hope Royal Caribbean has taken sufficient steps to resolve these issues, though they should have at least notified the CDC,” he emphasized.
Aronfeld’s revelations spurred a vigorous discussion among his followers in the comments section of his videos.
“Disney Cruise Line would NEVER,” one user remarked.
Someone else quipped, “Did he just say Symphony of Disease?”
A different comment read, “Cruises can be appalling… Is this really surprising?”
Another follower expressed disappointment, stating, “I expected better from Royal Caribbean,” to which Aronfeld responded, “Me too!”
Additional comments called for the CDC to conduct inspections on every ship docked in the U.S. on an ongoing basis.
