Duke’s standout freshman, Cooper Flagg, who is anticipated to be the top pick in the 2025 NBA draft, has been hinting at the idea of returning for a second year at college.

“Honestly,” Flagg shared in a recent interview with The Athletic, “I want to come back next year.”

As of Saturday, Flagg has been impressive, averaging 19.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game for the third-ranked Blue Devils, showcasing one of the most remarkable freshman seasons in recent history.

Flagg was the top recruit in the 2024 class after making a name for himself at the renowned Montverde Academy.

“I still feel like a kid,” Flagg expressed to the publication. “This is the only college experience I’ve known, and I can’t compare it to how others felt before me. If it feels any different, or more professional, I wouldn’t really know. It’s the same for high school kids nowadays, with so much money involved. I feel pretty normal.”

“Playing at the highest level in college and competing for a national championship has always been my dream,” he added.

Even with substantial NIL earnings—his valuation stands at $4.3 million, according to On3—it’s hard to believe that Flagg would choose to skip the draft.

At 6-foot-9 and 205 pounds, the 18-year-old possesses the physique and versatile skill set that NBA scouts eagerly seek.

He is the leading candidate for the Wooden Award, which recognizes the best player in the country.
