A British couple, Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who were traveling the world on a motorcycle tour, have been detained in Iran, according to a statement from the UK’s Foreign Office on Saturday. The couple was last active on social media in early January, and reports from Iranian state media this week revealed that two British citizens were arrested on charges related to “security crimes.”
Following the Iranian reports, the UK Foreign Office confirmed the couple’s detention and released a statement on behalf of their family. The family expressed their great concern about the situation, stating, “This unexpected turn of events has raised significant worry for our entire family, and we are focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this challenging time.”
Craig and Lindsay Foreman, both in their mid-50s, were on their way to Australia, where Lindsay was scheduled to present a paper at a psychology conference. The couple resides in Spain, where Lindsay works as a psychologist and life coach, while Craig is employed as a carpenter.
The news of their detention first emerged when Iranian state media published a photograph of Britain’s ambassador to Iran, Hugo Shorter, meeting with the detained couple, who stand accused of “security crimes.”
